The Porsche 911 is the standard base framework for over 15 various models by the Porsche design team. Variants include coupes and convertibles alike. The Porsche 911 series lineage is well known for its luxurious insides and its iconic exteriors that have defied many a heart over the years. The Porsche 911 series was brought to India back in 2007 and has been received well in elitist circles. The new models of the Porsche 911 that were launched in Mumbai drew Porsche owners and want to be owners alike to the grand auto expo. The Porsche 911 is priced starting from 8 million Indian rupees to 1 crore 24 lakh Indian rupees. The rampant amount of mixes and options available on the Porsche 911 platform has made it an instant success among auto enthusiasts in India. No other competitor in the D+ luxury sports segment has so much to offer as does Porsche 911 especially given its price tag.
The Porsche 911 platform lineage is powered by a 3.6 litre gasoline engine that has six cylinders supporting its operation. A turbo version is also available which adds some special features to the engine of the Porsche 911 to extract greater power.
The standard engine spews out a staggering 480 bhp (only 200 bhp short of a Formula One vehicle) at 6,000 rpm. The maximum torque produced on the Porsche 911 is a gigantic 620 Nm at 1,950 rpm. Porsche claims that the maximum speed achievable on the Porsche 911 is a whopping 310 km/hr but you need one hell of a race track to find that out for sure. The Porsche 911 accelerates from nought to 100 km/hr in just under 4 seconds which is stunning to say the least. To make sure that the Porsche 911 stays on road at all times, the Porsche 911 has been fitted with a permanent all wheel drive system that is electronically controlled to provide optimal traction at all times.
The Porsche 911 carries the same design year after year and decade after decade but something in its personality does not let you bore. The same curves flow all over the Porsche 911 as they have done since the earliest days. The basic styling character is just the same with a circular look and feel. The Porsche 911 has been optimised to ensure a consistent low centre of gravity and a large body to ensure maximum road grip. The head lamps are the same circular design and range from simple to xenon on certain trim levels of the Porsche 911 . The LED boom has finally caught up to the Porsche 911 too as the indicators and tail lights are doused with brilliant LEDs all the way around. Some versions come with a rear spoiler but it is not mandatory throughout the lineage.
The interior and cabin of the Porsche 911 are not meant for ultra luxury but rather for ultimate performance only. The consoles are fully functional, neat and simple. You don’t climb into a Porsche 911 to find out that you are being confused by the myriad switches and buttons that remind one of flying an airplane. The upholstery is the finest leather from throughout Europe and Bavaria that has been died in the most stunning of colours to complement the interiors on a Porsche 911 . The sides of the Porsche 911 as well as the doors are also finished using leather so that an equal feeling is generated throughout the cabin. The cabin is small but still offers dual climate control fully. The Porsche 911 comes equipped with the Porsche PCM (Porsche Communication Management) system that defines full vehicle functionality. The audio system is rather a simple surround sound system but who cares about audio when you have the symphonies of a melodious engine roaring right by?
The Porsche 911 is a historical delight to own and drive. When you buy a Porsche 911 , you don’t just get a car but rather a legacy of fine performance and brilliant engineering all combined to produce maybe the best performance vehicle out there on planet Earth. The Indian auto enthusiasts have given the Porsche 911 only lukewarm response as yet, but all of that will change in good time as the competition to the Porsche 911 will being to disappoint the buyers.
